Bob Dylan Joins TikTok Just Before Potential Ban

Bob Dylan has launched a TikTok account just days before the platform could face a ban in the US.

This announcement comes as TikTok revealed plans to halt its operations in the US on January 19 unless the Supreme Court intervenes by blocking or postponing the ban. According to a report from Associated Press, TikTok confirmed its intent to cease app operations in the US by January 19.

However, this will only be a last resort if the Supreme Court enforces regulations that would require the Chinese platform to sell itself to a third party and cut ties with its parent company, ByteDance. ByteDance has stated that it has no plans to sell the app.

Dylan’s sudden attempt to explore TikTok aligns with his recent patterns in social media behavior. Last year, he began engaging more frequently on X (formerly Twitter), sharing birthday wishes and various messages in addition to his regular updates as Elon Musk’s takeover caused a shift in user engagement on the platform.

Chalamet’s Connection to Dylan’s Biopic

In more Bob Dylan news, Timothée Chalamet made a stylish entrance to the London premiere of the Dylan biopic Complete Unknown by riding a Lime bike. As he arrived on the red carpet, Chalamet dismounted, finishing his ride while using his cellphone before posing for photos.

Dylan commended Chalamet’s performance in the film, calling him a “brilliant actor” and expressing confidence in his portrayal, saying, “I am confident that he will be completely believable, as I am.” He humorously added, “Or I’m younger. Or some other me.”

According to producer Peter Jasen, Dylan also had a say in the film’s script, having met with director Jim Mangold multiple times to discuss it. In a four-star review, NME remarked: “The most important (and often the most difficult) job in any musical film is getting the music right. And this is the nail. If you’re new to Bob, you’ll leave the theater ready to dive into its back catalogue. If you’re already a fan, you’ll spend the next few weeks curating playlists of lesser-known B-sides or exploring stories about scenes you weren’t familiar with. And that’s why making this film was a good idea—a crazy idea, but a good idea.”
