Details of the Event
The event will showcase the iconic lineup of the band with frontman Ozzi Osbourne, guitarist Tony Iommi, bassist Geezer Butler, and drummer Bill Ward performing live for the first time in two decades. It will be held at Villa Park in their hometown of Birmingham.
The news of the final living show, titled “Return to the Beginning,” was announced today (February 5) by Iommi and Sharon Osbourne, the manager and wife of the legendary frontman.
“It’s time to return to the beginning… It’s time for me to go back to the place where I was born,” Ozzi stated in a recent announcement. “How happy am I to do this with the people I love? Birmingham is a true metal home. Birmingham forever.”
In addition to the appearance of these metal pioneers, the event will feature numerous performances by other iconic artists. This includes sets from thrash metal legends Metallica, Slayer, and Anthrax, plus other heavyweights like Pantera, Lamb of God, Mastodon, Alice in Chains, Halestorm, and recent Grammy winners.
Special Guest Appearances
Guitarist Tom Morello, known for his work with Rage Against the Machine, will also appear at the event as a music director. He described the upcoming concert as “the greatest show of heavy metal.”
Other artists scheduled to perform throughout the day include Smashing Pumpkins’ Billy Corgan, Disturbed’s David Draiman, Guns N’ Roses’ Duff McKagan, Anthrax’s Frank Bello, Limp Bizkit’s Fred Durst, Sammy Hagar, and many more.
Lzzy Hale from Halestorm will also make an appearance, alongside well-known musicians like KK Downing, Jake E. Lee, Mike Bordin, and Rudy Sarzo.
Tickets will be available for purchase next Friday (February 14) at 10 a.m., with all proceeds going to charity, including Parkinson’s treatment, the children’s hospital in Birmingham, and a children’s hospice supported by Aston Villa. Visit tickets here.
Rumors regarding a potential reunion show for these metal veterans have circulated in recent years. In 2024, Ozzy mentioned he would “take advantage of the chance” to perform the final “Black Sabbath” show with founding drummer Bill Ward, and Butler suggested they both “agreed” to play one last concert.
Around the same time, Sharon mentioned that Ozzy planned “two more shows to say goodbye” before his complete retirement.
The band performed its final show during its last farewell tour in 2017, wrapping up at the Birmingham arena. However, last May, the singer expressed disappointment that the final date did not include Bill Ward, who left the legendary band in 2012 due to what he considered an unreasonable contract.
As of late last year, hopes for a reunion seemed dim, as Iommi remarked that while he was interested in performing one last show with the band, he thought it unlikely to happen.
Furthermore, Ozzy acknowledged his declining health, stating he might have to “accept the fact” that a live return could be hindered by issues stemming from his fight with Parkinson’s disease and complications following multiple surgeries.
