The track “The Test” features a rich bassline and bright piano notes, perfectly complemented by Tor Maries’s powerful vocals—her real name. “The mirror hall / I make the death wall / and I become fearless / when he pays my rent,” she sings.
This song was the first written for the upcoming album and has been described in the press release as a reflection of “the tumult and perplexity Billy Nomants has experienced over the last 18 months, which continues even now.”
Maris explained: “It works on something, no matter what, and the feeling that someone helps you from the other side. If they see you, this is a test. I really feel that when we play live. With everything that happens, I cannot believe that it survives.”

Details About MetalHorse
MetalHorse is set to release on May 16 via Invada and is available for pre-order here. This follows her 2023 debut, Cactui, and the self-titled album released in 2020.
Produced by James Trevaskus and recorded at Paco Loco in Seville, Spain, MetalHorse is Maries’s first album created in the studio with a full band. The press release promises a “complete album,” showcasing the musician’s exploration of new genres, including blues, folk, and piano arrangements, shifting her usual stark punk sound to something more pastoral.
Maries and her full band, featuring bassist Manda Clark (KT Tunstall, The Go! Team) and drummer Liam Capena (Rozi Plain, BMX Bandits), entered the studio shortly after the passing of her father.
Reflecting on her relationship with her father, Maries shared: “We were so close, and our connection was music. It provided my safety and protection in the world. Even in the care home, when things got worse, I visited him, and he would ask me what I was doing. I would show him new demos or tell him I was on the radio. It seemed to save everything from being terrible because we had this positive thing to discuss.”

The album has been described as a conceptual work addressing the themes of a turbulent life—risk and pleasure, danger and delight. “For me, a ‘metal horse’ represents a destructive fairground where some attractions are enjoyable, while some rides are not. This is how life felt for a moment, and it still seems a bit like that,” Maries explained.
She continued: “These days, the words of Leonard Cohen resonate with me. But there must be hope, even if it’s not real. You have to tell someone that everything will be fine.”
