Documentary Details
The new documentary about Billy Joel will take place in two parts on HBO this summer.
Called Billy Joel: And So It Goes, the documentary is directed by Susan Leisi, who created PBS’s American Masters series and has previously worked with HBO on projects like Jane Fonda in Five Acts and Spielberg. Jessica Levin, who produced these projects, is involved as well.
Exploring Billy Joel’s Life
In its longline, the upcoming documentary will examine the life and music of Billy Joel, delving into love, loss, and personal struggles that have inspired his songwriting. It promises unprecedented access to performances, home films, personal photographs, and exclusive one-on-one interviews.
Leisi expressed her thoughts about the project (through Deadline): “For those who think that they know the story of Joel, as well as those who are not so familiar, I think that this two-part film will be a revelation and a surprise. I was involved in his story, knowing little from the start, and was amazed at how autobiographical his songs are and how challenging his story is.”
The documentary announcement followed Joel’s recent report that he had postponed months of touring due to health issues.
