BeyoncĂ©’s Tour Controversy
Beyoncé received a letter regarding the termination and cancellation from the owner of the Las Vegas sphere for personnel involved in her tour “Cowboy Carter.”
The futuristic venue opened in 2023 and has since hosted residencies from artists like U2, Phish, and The Eagles. It has also been confirmed that Abu Dhabi will construct a new sphere venue.
Owner’s Concerns About Image
Reports indicate the owner is dissatisfied with the portrayal of the venue featured in the ongoing tour “Cowboy Carter,” which started on April 28. The owner sent a letter to the singer about the termination and cancellation.
The visuals in question appear during concert interludes and show a giant version of Beyoncé wearing a red cowboy hat and matching leather outfit, slowly moving through Las Vegas. She arrives at the sphere, bends down to pick it up, and then looks at it before leaving with a miniature version in her hands.
According to Billboard, the letter addressed to BeyoncĂ©’s Parkwood Entertainment by Sphere Entertainment Group requests the cessation of the use of captured material, claiming it was used “without permission” and could mislead fans.
“Recently, SEG has realized that the Internet Cowboy Carter Tour contains unauthorized use of SEG intellectual property,” states the letter.
NGL, I think it was ridiculous for the idea that she is going to make a sphere’s residency … Because she literally (and figuratively) is much larger than the sphere, that she will not hold her audience of her size 😭 https://t.co/szgonhokts

Beyoncé never gave FC how quickly she removes or edits it, because the owner of the sphere wants him to learn about her, using it, and also probably burns a bridge with her, so she probably never deals with this residency. pic.twitter.com/piz0knsssxx

“BeyoncĂ©’s figure is much larger than the venue of the sphere – bending down to raise a miniature place and looms over it,” the letter continues, suggesting that “significant assumptions” could be made regarding BeyoncĂ©’s completion of her tour with a residency at the sphere.
The letter further mentions, “SEG believes that many aspects of the interluded video, including other brands, clips, and music, were properly cleared through rights from the copyright owners, whose work was utilized in the video. However, SEG was never consulted, and the prominent appearance and depiction of the SEG sphere in the video were not authorized.”
Additionally, Billboard reported that James Dolan, CEO of Sphere Entertainment and Madison Square Garden Entertainment Group, attempted to negotiate a performance with the singer at the Las Vegas venue previously. Instead, Beyoncé is scheduled to perform at the Las Vegas Allegiant Stadium on July 25 and 26 this summer.
Beyoncé and her team have yet to respond to the letter.
