At the conclusion of Sony’s Cinemacon presentation on Monday evening in the United States (April 1 in Great Britain), director Sam Mendes took the stage to reveal details about his upcoming Beatles films.
Cast and Release Information
After a year of speculation, Mendes confirmed that the Fab Four will be portrayed by Harris Dickinson, Paul Mry, Barry Keoghan, and Joseph Quinn. Dickinson will embody John Lennon, Mry will play Paul McCartney, Keoghan will take on the role of Ringo Starr, and Quinn will represent George Harrison.
The film franchise is titled The Beatles: Kinematographic Event with Four Films, and in a surprising announcement, Mendes revealed that all four films are set to be released in April 2028, albeit not simultaneously.

According to a Deadline report, Sony Pictures chief Tom Rothman stated that Mendes aims to release four films in April 2028 to commemorate the first “Bingeable Moment in Cinema.” Mendes has not confirmed the release order of the four films.
Additionally, Mendes indicated that filming for all four movies will span over a year, but he is confident about the April 2028 launch. As per Variety, Mendes ultimately opted for the four-film format after considering a mini-series, stating that the “story was too expansive to fit into one film.” Each film will be narrated from the perspective of one of the four Beatles. This will also mark the first instance in history of granting musical rights to The Beatles’ discography.
The announcements followed recent reports suggesting that Quinn (Stranger Things) will portray the late George Harrison. Previously, Gladiator 2 director Ridley Scott mentioned that Paul Mry would be cast as Paul McCartney, and Ringo Starr himself seemed to confirm that Barry Keoghan would play the drummer.
In June, reports indicated that Mendes had cast two actors alongside Harris Dickinson as John Lennon, with Charlie Rowe initially considered for the role of Harrison. Although Rowe now appears to be out of the project, he could potentially feature in a different capacity. The films were first announced in February of the previous year.
