Azealia Banks Critiques Doechii’s Success
Azealia Banks launched a scathing attack on Doechii, claiming her success lies in “hiring DEI to work.”
The New York rapper and singer shared her thoughts on the rising artist and BBC Sound Of 2025 nominee in a post on X/Twitter last week (January 2). Banks responded to a follower who called Doechii “one of the coolest rappers out there right now.”
Remarks on Music and Criticism
“Absolutely not. Lmao. She had cool poetry, New York cafe music, and camp shit written by TDE. This provides an opportunity for DEI (diversity, equity and inclusion) hiring,” she wrote. “Everyone has convinced themselves that she’s good because she’s dark-skinned, and if you tell the truth and admit that she’s boring, you’re automatically a colorist or something.”
Banks went on to criticize Doechii’s fashion sense, stating that “she looks terrible in these outfits, the hyperpigmentation around her cunt and butt is SO CRUNCHY but she loves showing it off lmao.”
She further explained her stance, asserting that Dallas rapper Asian Doll deserves the recognition that Doechii has been receiving: “Honestly, all (these) sympathy accolades she's getting could have gone to ASIAN DOLL.”
“Asian Doll is dark and gorgeous, her music is hot, and the Asian was hot for a MINUTE. Girls don't want to give her a 10 because everyone is jealous of her, she's so fucking amazing.”

In a follow-up post, Banks expressed, “How did hip-hop really ignore CupcakKe and Asian Doll for Ice Spice and Doechii??? Be serious, okay. I'm definitely a hater, but I'm not a liar. I won’t lie to you and tell you that Doechii has one song that isn’t some corny and uninteresting Issa Rae playlist, black girl magic algorithm.”
Explaining that Doechii “does nothing for her,” Banks claimed that someone from the artist’s label, Top Dawg Entertainment, “sucked some dick” to secure her 2025 Grammy nominations, including Best New Artist and Best Rap Album (“Alligator Bites Never Heal”).
“Nobody knows any of these songs lol,” she stated. “Besides, I really fuck with Flo Milli. A lot of amazing black girls are being ignored because they are not ugly enough to provide compassionate support.”
Banks later wrote: “I really wish she was amazing so I could agree with y'all when I say I'm a hater but……. It accomplishes nothing, and every idiot in the industry agrees. God, gays say she looks like a bag of rocks.”

Last year, Banks lashed out at Doechii on Instagram, where the latter asked what her fan base should be called (like Taylor Swift’s “Swifties” or Beyoncé’s “Beyoncé”). “They should definitely be called ‘copycats,’” Banks responded.
Doechii then responded to the dig by commenting, “When you first came for me, I let it slide out of respect for my elders. It's not my fault that you sell soap and I sell platinum records. Leave me alone, PLEASE.”

Last month, Doechii revealed that her “genre-bending” debut album would be released in 2025, reflecting on how 2024 was her breakout year: “All I can think about is this album, so I'm just looking forward to making more hits by creating more music and achieving more of their goals. That's all.”
Since releasing her acclaimed mixtape Alligator Bites Never Heal last summer, Doechii has achieved numerous career milestones, such as launching a sold-out tour, performing on the main stage at Camp Flog Gnaw with SZA, and collaborating with Katy Perry and Tyler, The Creator on his albums “143” and “Chromakopia”. She also appeared on stage with Perry at the 2024 MTV VMAs.
Most recently, Doechii earned praise from Paramore lead singer Hayley Williams, following the rapper saying Williams’ group “made a huge impression on me and my style.”
Elsewhere, Doechii’s track “Nissan Altima” ranked 23rd on the NME list of the 50 best songs of 2024.
Azealia Banks threatened to sue The 1975’s Matty Healy last month after the pair fought over Banks’ comments about the frontman’s friend and collaborator Charli XCX. During the heated argument, Healy threatened Banks with physical harm. He subsequently deleted the post and apologized, writing: “I really let myself down.”
Banks then sent Healy a cease and desist letter and demanded $1 million (£790,000) in damages.
