Upcoming Concerts and Speculations

This news arrives just days after the legendary metal band revealed plans for three special shows this summer: a New Jersey concert featuring KoRn, a Chicago gig with Avenged Sevenfold, and a performance in Toronto alongside Deftones.

After pre-sale tickets rapidly sold out last week, Serj Tankian and his bandmates announced additional dates in each city, increasing the total planned concerts for 2025 to six.

Amid the anticipation for these performances, the band has released a mysterious teaser on social media, signaling to fans that another significant announcement is imminent. Over the weekend, System Of A Down posted a captivating short video featuring lyrics from their beloved 2001 track “Chop Suey!”: “WAKE UP!”

Along with this teaser, there was a link for fans to follow, which, however, provided little insight. Clicking it directs fans to the band’s official website, where they can subscribe to the newsletter for updates on news, concert information, and exclusive merchandise from System Of A Down.

Fans are already buzzing with speculation about what the upcoming announcement might entail. Some theories suggest that the reference to the 2001 song could imply plans for an anniversary tour celebrating the Toxicity album. However, as the album will be 24 years old in 2025, it might not be considered a major milestone.

Future Possibilities and New Material

There’s a possibility that the teaser could suggest more tour dates are to be announced in 2025, and instead of just the six confirmed US dates, the band might embark on a full-scale world tour.

While there is speculation about the potential release of new material, this seems uncertain, especially considering a recent member’s comments about their interest in producing new work.

The group, consisting of Tankian, Daron Malakian, Shavo Odadjian, and John Dolmayan, last released an album in 2005 with “Mezmerize” and “Hypnotize.” Metal Hammer reported that the frontman recently admitted to feeling “very passive” during the writing and recording stages of previous albums.

“I’ve had a very unique relationship with the last few records because I emotionally disconnected from the band during their creation,” he expressed.

This isn’t the first instance where the singer disclosed a diminishing interest in the group; he has made similar remarks in various interviews as well as in his autobiography, Down with the System.

Nonetheless, he appears to be more receptive to the idea of new material lately, stating in a recent conversation that a new System album could represent “a fresh start in a whole new way.”

Conversely, Shavo Odadjian expressed his confusion about the singer’s remarks and indicated that hopes for new music remain low. “I don’t know what he means,” Odadjian stated. “We’ve conducted our career in a certain manner, always pushing into new directions. But when it comes to the process, we will have to see how it unfolds once we convene. If one person is comfortable and the others are not, we won’t proceed. It should work for all four of us.”

He further elaborated, “Once the moment arrives where we are all synced up, we’ll find a way to make it happen. But I’m not implying it’s a certainty; I don’t want people misinterpreting it as clickbait such as ‘Shavo says there’s a new record coming out!’ If it occurs, it should materialize in a way that is comfortable for all four members.”

Although the band has not put out a full album since 2005, they did release two singles in 2020: “Protect The Land” and “Genocidal Humanoidz,” both of which were made to generate funds for Artsakh and Armenia amidst their attacks by Azerbaijan and Turkey.
