Andre 3000 Expresses Gratitude to Drake for Leaking Kanye West’s ‘Life of The Party’

Andre 3000 Talks About Donda

Andre 3000 opened up about his role on Kanye West’s 2021 album Donda and expressed his gratitude towards Drake – see what he had to say below.

The Struggle with Censorship

In 2021, Kanye approached Andre 3000 regarding his album “Donda.” Together they recorded a track titled “Life Of The Party.” However, the song did not make the final cut of the album due to disagreements over censorship. At that time, Kanye was firm on excluding any profanity from the record, while Andre’s verse included explicit language. Andre hesitated to omit the vulgarity, believing it would dilute the verse’s impact. Consequently, the song was left unreleased initially but later found its way onto the deluxe edition after it leaked.

Andre recently shared his thoughts while appearing on a New York Times podcast, in which he noted that Drake played a part in the song’s eventual release amidst his ongoing feud with Kanye.

“Ye was at a point where he didn’t want any swearing on the album and I said, ‘Yeah, I’m okay with that.’ I’m fine, no swearing. But take me out of the song because I wrote it a certain way,” Andre recalled about the collaboration. “I was cool with the beep versions, but you have to come out with the dirty version.”

“He told me, ‘I told my daughter there won’t be any swear words on the album.’ I said, ‘Yeah, man, kids for sure.’ So just take me down,” Andre continued.

The track also included Kanye West taking jabs at Drake, which ultimately led to Drake leaking the song on his radio show. Andre remarked on this: “Finally, Drake spoke up. So I have to thank Drake for allowing this song to see the light of day.”

He further discussed the beef between Drake and Kanye, along with Kanye’s diss verse in the track: “I think a lot of people think Kanye wrote the song and released the diss part without my knowledge. I heard the diss track and Kanye and I talked about it. I had my own feelings about this. I was like, ‘Dude, do you really want to do this with a song like this?’ It’s like going and shooting up your mother’s funeral.” He felt that same sentiment at that moment, which led to the diss being included.

Last month, André 3000 released two new tracks: the new song “Moving Day” and the previously unreleased New Blue Sun track “Tunnels Of Egypt.” He also hinted at “something new” related to his 2006 animated TV show, Class 3000, which aired for two seasons from 2006 to 2008.

Additionally, he teased new music coming next year, stating, “I don’t want to define exactly what it is, but I just want to express more… let’s put it that way.”

Earlier this month, Andre, a prominent member of OutKast, mentioned that the duo is “further away” from new music “than we’ve ever been.” He reflected, “I will say that 10-15 years ago I thought there was going to be an OutKast album. I don’t know the future, but I can say we’re further away from it than we’ve ever been.”

“It’s hard for me to write rap, period, you know? And sometimes I believe: ‘Let it be like this,’” he added.

Last year, Andre 3000 expressed that he felt he had “gone old” with rap. In an interview with GQ, he stated, “Sometimes I feel like rap isn’t real because I don’t have anything to talk about in that way. I am 48 years old. And I don’t want to say that age is the thing that determines what you rap about, but in a way it is.

“And the things that are going on in my life, like: What are you talking about? ‘I need to go for a colonoscopy.’ What are you rapping about? ‘My vision is getting worse.’ You can find cool ways to say it, but…”
