Amanda Palmer, Former Wife of Neil Gaiman, Refutes Human Trafficking Allegations

Amanda Palmer Denies Trafficking Claims

Amanda Palmer, the ex-wife of Neil Gaiman, has denied claims related to human trafficking, which emerged during the trial of their former nanny, filed last week (February 3).

Palmer’s Response to Allegations

On Instagram, a post shared on Friday (February 7), Palmer, who previously performed with the Dark Cabaret group The Dresden Dolls, addressed the allegations made by Scarlett Pavlovich in the trial. This trial follows an article in New York Magazine titled There is no safe word.

The allegations were first mentioned in the 2024 podcast Media Tortoise, where Pavlovich identified herself in the New York Magazine article. The article features remarks from multiple women accusing Gaiman of inappropriate and offensive behavior, casting doubt on Palmer regarding her awareness of his alleged actions. Pavlovich, who worked as a nanny for Gaiman’s children, claimed that he raped her several times during her employment.

Last month (January 15), Palmer’s representative told NME that she was “deeply concerned about the statements that Mr. Gaiman abused several women,” stating that she “has no comments about these accusations” regarding her work.

Palmer’s latest statement began: “I thank you all for continuing to respect my recent request for confidentiality, as I navigate this extremely difficult time. I have to protect my small child and his right to privacy.” However, she added that “she would not respond to specific allegations,” except to say that “I deny the prosecution and will respond in due time.” She concluded, “My heart goes out to all survivors.”

Background of the Situation

Palmer first met Gaiman in 2008, and they were married in 2011 before announcing their divorce in 2022. They share one son.

The lawsuit begins with the statement: “This requirement arises from the sexual violence of the defendant Neil Gaiman against the plaintiff and the role of his wife Amanda Palmer in facilitating and enabling such violence.”

Furthermore, the lawsuit asserts that “Gaiman engaged in multiple sexual acts without the consent of Scarlett,” stating: “These actions were offensive and humiliating… Scarlett endured these actions because she feared losing her job, housing, and promised future career support if she did not comply.”

Previously, representatives for Neil Gaiman did not respond to NME‘s request for comment, although he published a statement on January 14 on his website, denying the accusations.

He stated: “I have never engaged in non-consensual sexual activity with anyone. Ever.” Later, he added: “Some of the awful stories being told now simply never happened, while others have been so distorted from what actually occurred that they bear no relation to reality.”

This is an evolving story.
