Alice Cooper Advocates for Iron Maiden Induction
During a recent discussion regarding the Hall of Glory Rock -N -Roll, Alice Cooper expressed his desire for Iron Maiden to receive further recognition.
Cooper praised the British legends of heavy metal, who will be touring the UK and Europe this summer with their “Run for your Life” tour, during a Q&A session on the Rock Legends cruise last month.
Iron Maiden’s Long-Awaited Recognition
The band has been eligible for induction into the Hall of Glory Rock -N -Roll since 2004, yet they have only been nominated twice, in 2021 and 2023. Notably, Cooper was introduced by Rob Zombie at the 2011 ceremony.
When asked about artists he would like to see inducted into the Hall of Glory Rock -N -Roll, Cooper mentioned “Iron Maiden”, stating: “I mean, come on – an iron virgin. How can you overlook Iron Maiden? They have their own army out there.”
The band’s frontman Bruce Dickinson recently reflected on his interaction with fans, associating it with a desire to perform “with integrity,” and emphasized that they do not rely on backing tracks to become a “Virgin Disneyland.”
In a recent discussion, Dickinson mentioned a fan who remarked, “It’s so great to see how the band still does it.” He responded, “Yes, and we do it in full! There is no lip-syncing. This fan remarked that many groups rely on backing tracks now … I said: “No! No way!”
“If we use backing tracks, that’s the day I leave,” he added. “Or the day we stop. If it’s not genuine, it’s not Maiden.”
Cooper’s Thoughts on Induction Criteria
Meanwhile, during the cruise discussion, Cooper shared his thoughts on the Rock Hall’s decision to induct non-rock artists. “It’s very difficult for me to see someone like Missy Elliott in there,” he admitted (as transcribed by Blabbermouth).
Cooper continued: “I grew up on rock -N -roll bands; that’s what rock is. But then I seemed to loosen that idea. Even Dolly Parton said: ‘I don’t belong in the Rock Hall of Fame’… yet she made a rock record. I would prefer to see Iron Maiden there before some of these others.”
In related news, Dickinson announced that the band will “do what we have never done before” on their upcoming tour: “For those of you who bought tickets, just know it’s going to be very, very cool. I’m really looking forward to this.”
Additionally, they recently announced a new documentary celebrating their 50th anniversary, which will feature the last interview with former frontman Paul D’anno, who passed away last year at the age of 66.
The official title and release date of the documentary have yet to be revealed, but it is anticipated to debut this fall, with Malcolm Venille (Churchill in the War) directing and production by Dominic Freeman (Spirits in the Forest – Depeche Mode Movie).
They will also be releasing a new visual book titled Endless Dreams this fall. It will include images of iconic albums, single artworks, instruments from the past and present, stage props, handwritten lyrics, and archival artifacts. There will also be unseen photographs of the band.
Meanwhile, Cooper confirmed two upcoming shows in the UK this summer, marking his only performances in Scotland and Wales planned for 2025.
