Alex James Gets Emotional Seeing His Teenage Daughter at Blur Reunion Show

Emotional Moment at Blur Show

Alex James has shared that he “burst into tears” upon seeing his teenage daughter in the audience at a recent Blur concert.

Reflections on Family and Fans

The Britpop bassist, who launched his memoir Over the Rainbow: Tales from an Unexpected Year earlier this month, reflected on the band’s new wave of fans and his children attending a Blur performance.

Speaking to Channel 4 News, James recalled an early reunion warm-up in Eastbourne, where he humorously noted that his older kids “all got drunk at once, fell over and started going crazy.” Surprisingly, his youngest daughter, who is just 14, was deeply affected by the show.

“I knew where she was; they put her on the observation deck. When the lights turned on, you literally couldn’t see anything, but the moment the house lights came on for the first time, I saw her and sneaked a look,” James explained.

“And she threw her head back, her hands were raised, and I literally burst into tears. It was evident that the music was completely, completely, completely connected to her.”

James then elaborated on the band’s new teenage audience, stating, “Teenage kids are notoriously harder to relate to than singers and guitarists.”

“This is crazy,” he added. “Tickets were primarily sold to individuals aged 18 to 31, so it feels incredible that Blur has discovered a whole new audience alongside those who grew up with them.”

Achievements and Nostalgia

It’s been a significant year for Blur since the release of Until the End – a documentary produced by Transgressive Records founder Toby L. – in July.

The film chronicles James’s reunion with Damon Albarn, Graham Coxon, and Dave Rowntree as they came together to record their 2023 comeback album, The Ballad Of Darren, followed by a tour that concluded with two shows at London’s Wembley Stadium last summer.

Reviewing Until the End, NME stated: “They fight, they hug, they call each other crap, they get the job done. Blur’s latest doc and accompanying live film There’s No Distance Left to Run portrayed a band celebrating their heritage and providing a nostalgia-hungry world exactly what it craved; this spiritual sequel showcases the band simply supporting each other.”

“Whether they will return again or not remains to be seen. But even if they don’t, it was one hell of a last-minute romance.”
