A$AP Rocky Playfully Cheers on Lawyer in A$AP Mob Following Acquittal

Rapper’s Acquittal Celebration

A $ AP Rocky jokingly introduced his lawyer in “A $ AP Ap Mob” after his sentence (February 18) yesterday.

The rapper was not found guilty after a recent trial regarding his involvement in a shooting incident in 2021.

Following an almost month-long trial in Los Angeles, $ AP Rocky was unanimously declared innocent by all jurors after he faced charges of allegedly firing a weapon at his former friend, AP Relli, in Hollywood in 2021.

Rocky was facing 24 years in prison after he rejected a plea deal that would have resulted in 180 days of incarceration.

According to a report in La Times, a loud cheer erupted in the courtroom when the clerk announced the jury’s verdict of innocence. Among the first to celebrate was Rocky’s partner, Rihanna, who he rushed to hug. La Times reported that A $ AP Rocky thanked the jury for the “salvation of my life” after the verdict, stating they had “made the right decision.”

Details of the Trial

Outside the court, rapper’s lawyer Joe Takopina discussed the innocent verdict alongside $ AP and his partner Rihanna. It was at this moment that A $ AP jokingly claimed he had joined the “$ ap mob” — a nod to the Hip-Hop collective of which he is a member.

Check the moment here:

The trial commenced on January 24, where prosecutors argued that Rocky, whose real name is Rakkim Mayers, pointed a firearm at Relly, whose real name is Terrell Efron, and fired, injuring him.

During the proceedings, prosecutors informed the jury that Mayers fired several shots from a 9-mm semiautomatic pistol during a confrontation with his former friend, AP Relli (Terrell Ephron), in Hollywood.

Takopina mentioned that the rapper admitted to pulling the trigger on the weapon he carried that night, stating he discharged “two warning shots” from his “starter pistol” to break up the alleged altercation between Relly and $ AP Illz (real name Illija Ulanger), another member of their crew, $ AP Mob.

He added that the gun used that night was a prop from a music video he filmed months earlier with Rihanna, whom he described in court as his “life partner” and the mother of his two young sons. Since the weapon was a prop, no actual rounds were fired.

A pivotal moment in the trial—reported by Diversity—occurred when Efron confirmed he had been involved in a shooting two weeks prior to the incident. This allowed Mayers’ lawyers to argue that the two shell casings found at the crime scene were not discharged from his weapon.

Rihanna and $ AP Rocky are visible outside the Center for Criminal Justice of Clara Shortridge, on February 18, 2025 in Los Angeles, California.

Although she wasn’t required to testify, Rihanna attended several trial dates in support of $ AP Rocky. The two musicians, who first met in 2012, began their romantic relationship in 2020 and share two children together.

Rihanna later expressed her relief on Instagram, stating, “Glory belongs only to God! Grateful, humbled by his mercy! 🙏🏿”
