Mark Hoppus of Blink-182 Reacts to Banksy’s “Raw Oil (Vettriano)” Worth £4.3 Million

The Auction of Banksy’s Painting

The artwork “Raw Oil” by Banksy (Vettriano), which was previously owned by Mark Hoppus from Blink 182, was auctioned for 4.3 million pounds.

In 2011, Hoppus purchased this unique piece by the British artist and activist. “This artwork meant so much to us and was such an amazing part of our lives. I’m thrilled that it will now be on display for everyone to see. Godspeed,” the musician remarked in his statement.

Details of the Artwork

Banksy’s painting references the iconic work of the late Scottish artist Jack Vettriano, Singing Butler. In the piece, a couple dances on a stormy beach alongside their butler and maid. True to Banksy’s style, two figures in yellow Khamatics costumes are set against the backdrop of an oil drum.
