The legendary bassist from the metal group and a member of seven hours after Violet explained why he chose not to release his joint track with Korn’s vocalist during an appearance at the Las Vegas radio station KOMP 92.3.

Track Release Details

As noted by Blabbermouth, Odajyan mentioned in April 2023 that the song was planned for inclusion in the debut LP of seven hours after the same name. However, upon its release on October 11, 2024, the song was not included in the tracklist.

“Morgot (real name Michael Montoya), the guitarist of seven hours after the Weylet, had a chorus that he had sung for (Davis) some time ago. Since he produces many groups and previously worked with Jonathan Davis, he suggested: ‘Let’s write a song around this and then play it for him to see if he likes it.’ Unfortunately, it just didn’t click. At the time I announced Jonathan’s involvement, we had already created the song, and it was still intended to be a diverse record. We weren’t looking for our own singer, nor did we have our own band. It was an album of my music featuring vocalists from all over the planet,” Odajyan shared during a radio segment.

He further explained: “If we’re collaborating and bringing Jonathan Davis in, I want him to fully participate with us, not just do what he did 10 years ago, which didn’t pan out as expected,” Shavo clarified. “We’re friends, and I respect Jonathan highly. We can work together anytime, and we will. That song ultimately evolved into ‘Paradise,’ the first single from seven hours after the purple.”

“He contributed to that chorus, but it turned out to be a different atmosphere for the song. I don’t think he was a fan of it at the time. Looking back, we realized it wasn’t ripe. I should not have made any announcements; that was my mistake. I was overly excited – and it just wasn’t meant to be. When something feels right, you know it, but this simply wasn’t right for any of us. This is how art unfolds. As an artist, I’m sure you create many pieces that you don’t release but keep for yourself.”

Talking previously to SNSMIX.com, Odajyan elaborated that the initial idea behind seven hours after Violet was intended to be “like DJ Khaled in rock,” where the band would collaborate with various famous vocalists, including Davis.

“What unfolded was that seven hours after purple music turned out to be really compelling, and I started craving to perform it live,” he noted. “I was adamant that we should play it live, but at that moment, the collaborations on the record didn’t align well with a live setup,” he continued.

He also explained that after realizing the band had formed a cohesive unit, they attempted to adjust the track for collaboration, allowing for Davis’s vocals only during the chorus, but ultimately concluded that it didn’t sound right in the end.

“The altered version didn’t match its potential because I believe Jonathan is fantastic,” said Odajyan. “We even had a conversation about this, and we agreed that if we ever collaborate again, we will create something fresh together, rather than relying on what he had recorded in the past with a different rhythm.”

In other news, the system recently promised to make “radical” changes to their setlist for the upcoming 2025 tour. Odajyan previously remarked that these shows are meant to “test the waters” following many years of touring. “The relationship wasn’t as strong as it is now; we simply weren’t on the same page. But we’ve communicated, and everything is good now,” he stated to SiriusXM’s Nation of a Chest with Eddie Tank in January.
