Chappell Roan and Elton John performed the duet “Pink Pony Club” at his Oscar party – watch the frames below.
Support for the AIDS Foundation
Back in January, the Rocket Man singer took to social media to share details about his annual Oscar Party in support of the AIDS Foundation, featuring Roan as the sole performer for this year’s event.
During the speeches, hosts Cheryl Lee Ralph and Neil Patrick Harris addressed fundraising efforts and combatting stigma, with Harris highlighting that the Trump administration halted funding for Unaids, the UN program addressing HIV/AIDS that supports communities in Africa and beyond.
Before Roan took the stage, John delivered a heartfelt speech recalling the moment he first heard her music. “I was just scared when I heard her. I interviewed her and fell in love with her and the album,” he said. “She’s so kind to do it. Now she is one of the largest stars in the world. She not only speaks with her voice on stage, but also speaks from the heart.”

Just the night before, Roan used her voice to dedicate her British award to “defeating” trans artists, drag queens, students, sex workers, and Sinead O’Connor, who made headlines after delivering a powerful speech at the 67th GRAMMY Awards critiquing record labels and sharing her journey as a new artist.
At the John event, she performed a full set that included multiple duets with John, such as “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me” and “Your Song,” which she covered on YouTube five years prior, before achieving widespread fame.
Along with performing “The Princess Returns” and “The Middle West Falls,” the hit “Pink Pony Club,” she also sang “Naked in Manhattan,” “Super Graphic Ultra Modern Girl,” “Femininomenon,” “Hot to Go,” and “Good Luck, Baby!”
“Thank you so much for believing in me. You have made it possible for me to be the artist I am today,” Roan expressed on stage after John adorned her with a dazzling pink cowboy hat, admitting that it felt “scary” to perform John’s classic “Your Song” in front of the man who wrote it.
Later in the evening, she urged the audience to “free the nipple” during “Hot in Here,” dedicating “Good Luck, Baby!” to “all future ex-boyfriends in this room,” adding, “When I walked on stage, they said, ‘Wait a second, I like girls.’”

The duo quickly formed a friendship after Roan catapulted to fame last year, garnering criticism, while icons like John came forward to support her.
Roan discussed the challenging aspects of her rapid rise to prominence, acknowledging the normalization of extreme fan behaviors, including “harassment,” “trolling online,” and people “screaming at you in public.”
Since then, John has frequently mentioned their FaceTime conversations where he shares advice: “Chappell was a bit overwhelmed by her sudden success—although she had been writing for a long time, this happened really fast.”
“I just try to reassure her and say, ‘Listen, everything is fine. Do what you want. Don’t listen to anyone. Go at your own pace. Don’t listen to the record label pressuring you for another album. Do it when you feel ready,’” he explained.
