Chappell Roan Honors His British Award with “Trans Artists, Trans-Korolev, Fashion Students, Sex Workers, and Sinead O’Connor”

Chappell Roan’s Inspiring Tribute

Chappell Roan dedicated her victory in Britain last night (March 1) to “trans artists, trance, fashion students, sex workers, and Sinead O’Connor.”

Recognition and Solidarity

Roan won both the best international performer and the best international song for “Good Luck, Baby!” at the 2025 awards yesterday. Although she was not present, she expressed her solidarity with fellow artists through her video performances.

During her acceptance speech for the best international song, she highlighted the pressure many of her peers face today, stating: “Artists deserve the freedom to write bad songs and explore terrible concepts without the burden of creating music based on external circumstances.”

Upon receiving the best international artist award, she remarked: “Chappell Roan was born from the experience of strange joy. It’s so special that I had to write an entire album about it.”

She further added: “I dedicate this to trans artists, drag queens, fashion students, sex workers, and Sinead O’Connor. These individuals laid the foundation for me to be here today. I owe it all to them, and I will continue to advocate for them.”

This is not the first occasion Chappell has used her significant platform to voice support for the trans community. At the 2025 Grammy Awards, she honored trans girls, stating: “I wouldn’t be here without the trans community. Just know that pop music cares about you, and I strive to stand up for you in every possible way.”

Mental Health Initiatives in the Music Industry

Similarly, the singer of “Red Wine Supernova” made headlines in February when she used her best new artist speech at the 67th Grammy Prize to call out record labels and share her experiences as a new artist.

After her performance, Universal Music Group announced a Mental Health Fund for the music industry in partnership with Music Health Alliance, aimed at providing mental health services to both current and former music professionals across the United States, regardless of whether they are signed to a label.

The partnership builds on a four-year health program that has provided personalized recommendations for mental health consultants, grants for covering costs, and resource recommendations to ensure continued medical care through additional financial and mental support.

In addition to the services available through the Mental Health Fund, MHA also offers dental resources, individual and family medical insurance, support for elder care, vision resources, and much more.

Prior to this, the singer of “Good Luck, Baby!” was named NME‘s best song of 2024. It was an undeniable success, featuring a persistently catchy synthesizer as Roan conveyed personal truths about someone desperately trying to deny their uniqueness.
