Damiano David has unveiled a new contemplative solo track titled “next summer.”

This fresh release marks the latest addition to the array of solo singles from the Måneskin frontman, following songs like “Silverlines,” “Born with a Broken Heart,” and a cover of Mark Ronson and Miley Cyrus’s “Nothing Breaks Like a Heart.”

Meaning Behind the Music

The acoustic ballad carries a deeper significance than it may seem at first. David elaborated: “At first listen, the song speaks of youthful love—an unrequited summer affair. However, on a deeper level, it reveals a much broader reflection. This serves as an allegory for life—how we can sometimes be constricted by ourselves, our fears, our uncertainties, and our inability to change. It highlights our struggle to perceive the world and life from different perspectives during crucial moments of existence.”

Additionally, the music video for the song was filmed in an Italian prison.

What’s Next for David

In a conversation with NME earlier this year, he offered insights into what fans can expect from his upcoming debut solo album. When asked if the record would encompass “diverse and personal themes,” he confidently replied: “Yes.”

David further described the album as “very excessive, very dramatic, very theatrical. This is definitely more personal. We are discussing the drama of being alive, particularly in challenging circumstances.”

The Italian artist is set to embark on his solo tour at the end of this year, making his live debut in New York City this October. Following the initial tour announcement, additional dates were added due to “phenomenal demand.”
