C Tortoise Releases New Single
C Tortoise has unveiled a new single, '2001', marking their first offering from the 2024 album, “Dear Sharp Sensations.”
Musical Fusion and Nostalgia
This track showcases how the London-based group merges pop elements reminiscent of the Nounes with their signature analog sound, highlighting the vocal interplay between Cole Quirk and Mimiko McWhee. The single is accompanied by a b-side featuring a cover of Magnetic Fields’ “When You Are Old and Lonely”.
“’2001′ was initially a song I wrote for my first group, ‘Honey Creeper’, prior to the Covid pandemic. It never quite materialized within that group, but I felt it aligned with the direction Shereguya was heading. It evokes memories such as getting my first skateboard and watching ‘Lord of the Rings’, which gives this song a nostalgic playfulness. Plus, Mimiko was born in 2001, so it resonates with her too,” shares Quirk.
The group began as a solo project for Quirk before expanding after he met McVeight on set. They have now added Jimmy Jackson on drums, Frank Livisi on bass, and Mack Kniese on keys and synthesizers. Neiese became a permanent member during the production of “Expensive Acute Sensations” at Abbey Road.
