Ongoing Success and Cultural Impact

The Dreamworld tour commenced in 2022, and the concert in Copenhagen was featured in a documentary titled Pet Shop Boys Dreamworld: The Greatest Hits Live on Royal Arena Copenhagen, which premiered in cinemas in January 2024.

In a five-star review of the Dreamworld concert at the Hall in 2022, NME praised the “affective collection of the group’s best hits and their ability to continually stay ahead of the curve.”

It added: “The concert showcases a range of styles and themes present in their canon, creating a two-hour joyous celebration of their decades-long contributions to high-caliber pop music.”

Pet Shop Boys are set to release their 15th album in 2024, and in an interview with NME back in April, they referred to it as a “quirky album.” Neil Tennant, who came out as gay in 1994, reflected on how much has changed for queer representation in popular culture.

“Now, I think what you could call gay culture has become mainstream,” Tennant stated. “A few years ago, I attended Strange Boots on Broadway, and it was essentially a direct audience; when the drag queens performed, everyone went wild. I thought: “Wow, this has completely become mainstream” – and I believe this is influenced by RuPaul’s Drag Race.
