Stormzy Refutes Claims of Omitting Palestinian Posts from McDonald’s Partnership

Stormzy’s Criticism and Partnership Controversy

Stormzy faced backlash concerning his collaboration with McDonald’s and his social media posts supporting Palestine.

Collaboration Details and Reactions

The rapper partnered with McDonald’s UK and Ireland for their first signature meal, which launched on February 12. This collaboration sparked scrutiny due to McDonald’s perceived stance on the Israeli-Hamas conflict, particularly in light of franchises in Israel providing free meals to the Israeli military.

In a statement on Instagram, Stormzy addressed the situation: “Hello guys. I wanted to clarify any distorted narratives that circulated online last week. Firstly, I did not archive the post where I expressed support for Palestine for any reason related to me; I archived many IG posts last year for various reasons. In that post, I discussed #freepalestine, oppression, and injustice, and my stance on this issue remains unchanged.”

Stormzy denies that in eliminating the Palestinian posts from the McDonald's partnership, McDonald's deal

He further explained: “The brands I collaborate with cannot dictate my actions, nor do they try to; otherwise, I wouldn’t work with them. I conduct my own research on all the brands I partner with, gather my own information, form my own opinion, and come to my own conclusions prior to engaging in any business.”

The artist added: “I am sharing this because I know that there are people who have supported and praised me, who genuinely feel hurt and offended by what they believe occurred. I aim to provide clarity for those individuals, hoping this helps. I recognize that it must be disappointing when it seems that someone you defend has compromised their beliefs for commercial gain, but that is not the case.”

In concluding his statement, Stormzy remarked: “Social media and the internet tend to amplify narratives without complete context. While I want to remain transparent, I prefer not to respond immediately to every misunderstanding or clarify every false narrative around my name. Much love, Storm.”
