Celebrity Hockey Game For Fire Recovery

Justin Bieber, Snoop Dogg, Steve Carell, and others are set to participate in a charity hockey game aimed at supporting the recovery of Los Angeles following the devastating fires earlier this year.

Event Details

The event, “Skate for LA Strong: A Celebration to Support Fire Recovery in Los Angeles,” will kick off later today (February 23) at the Crypto.com Arena. All proceeds will be donated to the Red Cross, the California State Fire, the Cal Fire Foundation, and Help Firefighters and Restoration efforts in the Canyon.

According to the Los Angeles Kings’ website, four teams consisting of 13 players each will participate in the exhibition. Each team will feature a mix of celebrities, NHL alumni, and first responders, with tickets for the play-broadcast available on ESPN2 and ESPN+. Firefighters, first responders, and victims affected by the wildfires will also receive complimentary access.

Will Ferrell, Vince Vaughn, Ross Lynch, Danny DeVito, and Cobie Smulders will also be part of the event, while Cascade, Jordan Davis, and Lauren Spencer Smith will provide musical entertainment.

Fans have noted both Bieber and Carell’s hockey skills, humorously suggesting that “the Bieber/Carell line will be unstoppable,” while others expressed light-hearted disappointment that DeVito, who is coaching the event, won’t be on the ice.

The Canadian pop star has participated in celebrity games before, including last year’s NHL All-Star game in Toronto. Carell also played hockey at the collegiate level as a goaltender, showcasing his skills in the acclaimed TV show The Office, which director Paul Feig described as a pivotal episode for the series.

This charity match is part of a broader series of celebrity-driven events raising funds for wildfire victims. Since the wildfires broke out in Los Angeles in early January, about 29 lives were lost, and thousands of homes and businesses have been destroyed.

Joni Mitchell made a rare public appearance at the Lay Fairwood show, while Billie Eilish and Green Day come together for an upbeat rendition of “Last Night on Earth.” The surviving members of Nirvana also made a surprise appearance, joined by St. Vincent, Kim Gordon, Joan Jett, and Daiva Gril Violet on vocals.

Lady Gaga shared a new song directly inspired by the wildfires titled “I Need This Time.” Many other musicians have also stepped forward to assist affected communities.

The Beigud Foundation has contributed $2.5 million towards recovery efforts. Paris Hilton has launched a fund for fire-affected families, promising $100,000 and encouraging raised donations up to that same sum. Dave Grohl even spent his birthday preparing meals for those impacted by the flames.
