New Album and Upcoming Tour
The Australian pop duet released their comeback album “Ask This God” – their first studio album in eight years – in July of last year. Since then, they have resumed touring with upcoming dates in the USA, Mexico, Brazil, and Colombia.
Earlier today (February 20), the Empire of the Sun revealed their return to London after six years, with a special concert at the Old Royal Military College on August 2, as part of the ongoing series of concerts called Labyrinth in the Thames.
“London!! It’s time to ask this God! We meet again… It’s been too long!” they shared on Instagram.
“We are all guides, sharing experiences. It’s time to share this music with you, blending the past, present, and spirit into one. Blessings, and we will see you soon. The Empire of the Sun.”
Pre-sale tickets will begin on February 27 at 10:00 GMT. You can register for them here.
Nick Kaslman, founder of Labyrinth, mentioned in a press statement: “Labyrinth on the Thames is honored to be part of the ‘Return to London’ event!”
“Their music is truly timeless and serves as a soundtrack to many memories. Their new live show, set against the backdrop of the Thames and the London skyline, promises to be a spectacular experience this summer.”
The Empire of the Sun’s Nick Littlemore previously commented on “Ask for God”: “It was a journey unlike any other the Empire of the Sun has experienced. We always delve deeper when studying ourselves and the outside world.”
“This album represents the greatest shift in mindset our world has ever seen, and that is reflected in our music.”
Among their upcoming US tour dates is a performance at the California festival, like Heaven, which will also feature Rilo Kiley’s first show in over 17 years.
The festival, organized by Coachella and Day N Vegas’s Goldenvoice, will return to Brookside at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California, on Saturday, May 10. Tickets are available here.
In a recent interview with NME, Luke Steel from the Empire of the Sun reminisced about his experience writing music for Beyoncé in 2011.
“It was an incredible moment, working with the amazing producer Jeff Bhasker. She needed just one more song to complete her album, ‘4’.”
“I suggested we write a song about Jay-Z, discussing how he moves too fast, smokes too much, and all that, but I would choose to die young rather than live without her. She loved the concept immediately. There’s probably no greater singer than Beyoncé.”
“Though I’ve never met her, I did work with Jay-Z on The Blueprint 3 and shared dinner with him – so I did run into the Carters! (Laughs) We’ve got something brewing, awaiting a call for the next melodies! Title: ‘Beyoncé – Style is ready!’
