Green Day Adds New Footage to Film About the Band’s Early Days in Oklahoma

Green Day’s New Film Project

Green Day is collaborating with Live Nation Productions on a new comedy film titled New Years, which is currently casting in Oklahoma.

The Storyline of New Years

This film follows the journey of three friends who embark on a trip through rugged terrain after they are mistakenly believed to be opening for Green Day at a New Year’s show in Los Angeles. Mason Thames, Kailr Koffman, and Ryan Bust form the central trio, alongside Jen Fisher, Angela Kinsey, Sean Gann, Ignasio Diaz-Silveo, and Kin Ruffalo.

The Freihofer casting agency is seeking individuals aged 18-30 to portray “Participants of a pop-up rock show in an open area.” They are particularly looking for “Punk, Emo, Hardcore, Alternative, and Rocker Young People.” Outdoor filming is set to take place from February 24-27, with one day designated for a scene titled “Rain and Dirt.”

Insights from the Creatives

Billy Joe Armstrong, the frontman of Green Day, has shared his reflections on the film’s themes, stating: “The rule of van days. You will ride all night without sleep, and then play a show for 10 kids in the basement of a friend’s house 50 miles east of where you started. But you’ll do it again the next day, and the day after, because you’re doing it with your bandmates who become your family, and it’s not like what you thought it would be.”

Ryan Croft from Live Nation Productions notes: “With the incredible guidance from Green Day, New Years tells the story of young artists chasing their dreams—long nights, endless miles, and exhilarating moments on stage, all contributing to their journey. This film, brought to life by an amazing cast, is a tribute to the magic of live music.”
