Rosé’s Emotional Journey
The singer Blackpink Rosé expressed that it felt as if she had “no life” while creating her debut solo album “Rosie.”
Insights from the Studio
Blackpink Rosé recently opened up in an interview with CutIN, discussing the emotional challenges she faced while working on her new album, Rosie. She revealed that “Vampirholli” was the first song she wrote, stemming from her feelings about the hatred she receives online.
“Being in the studio every day, trying to write a song that would pull it out of my chest, I literally had no life,” she shared. “I woke up, went to the studio, returned home disappointed, and went back again—constantly for the whole year.”
Rosé mentioned that the more she contemplated the song, the more she realized that “there will always be new things that could be written about.” When she sensed that she was overthinking, she recognized that “there must not be much to say about it.”
“I gave it a funeral and sent it away,” she added. Rosé also revealed that she has begun working on new music. “I was in the studio last week. What better way to spend your life than being in the studio? But I also thought, ‘I have to live a little.’ I need to break my heart again. I need to be a little foolish and come back,” she explained.
Album Release and Reception
Rosé’s solo album “Rosie” was released in full on December 6, 2024, accompanied by the music video for the single “Toxic to the End.” The album features a total of 12 tracks, including her Billboard Hot 100 hit ‘Apt.’
‘Apt.’ was later named one of the best 50 songs of 2024 and one of the top 25 K-Pop songs of the year by NME. In a four-star review of the album, NME‘s Crystal Bell wrote that the album “offers a rare and intimate invitation to understand Rosé as more than just a star—to see her as a woman searching for testing, love, and significance.”
