Ben Verse by Makulum Commons: A 200-Day Journey in Health Recovery

Health Renewal Journey

Ben “Verse” Mount shared his health renewal after being hospitalized for over 200 days – see what he said below.

Diagnosis and Hospitalization

Last month, a recent diagnosis of the former pendulum’s cancer was discovered after a funding initiative was launched to alleviate the financial burden of treatment. Mount was diagnosed with acute monoblastic leukemia four months ago.

During this period, Mount remained hospitalized for over 200 consecutive days. On the fundraising page, Brother Mount Jeremy revealed that Ben was initially hospitalized in August of last year, with suspicions of tuberculosis. Later diagnoses revealed it to be a “rapidly growing, antibiotic-resistant” strain, which led to an abscess in his lung.

He was readmitted to the hospital and placed under sedation for six weeks, during which there were doubts about his survival.

Recent Update

Earlier this week (February 17), Ben Mount took to Instagram to share an update on his health and hospitalization. From his sickbed, Mount stated: “They finally released me from the hospital 208 days later. I feel pretty beaten, but it’s nice to be at home.”

He continued in his update: “Tomorrow nurses will come to my house, and I will begin 21 days of chemotherapy injections, which, as I hope, will be the last chemotherapy that I have to undergo. If I can achieve complete remission, I can continue my life. I just wanted to express how much this means to me, especially to everyone who has reached out and continues to write to me every day.”

The fundraising effort – currently has raised £61,725 – Mount expressed: “Anyone who helped has made a significant impact, and I cannot thank you and my family enough. I love you all.”

Ben ‘The Steers’ Mount has been a long-time member of the Pendulum, first joining the Australian bass group as its tour host in 2006. In 2010, he made his recording debut with the group and curiously parted ways with the Pendulum in early 2018 to focus on his solo career.

The band performs live at Reading 2024.

The Pendulum is set to return to the UK for a series of shows, including performances in Margate, Plymouth, Halifax, Scarborough, and their largest show yet in Milton Keynes – tickets for the shows from May to August are available here.

Last year, the Pendulum was recognized as one of NME‘s most magical moments at Reading and Leeds 2024. Just before their cult festival appearance, frontman Rob Svir spoke with NME about their recent return, including the participation of Joi Valens and Brae.

Reflecting on what lies ahead for the group, he stated: “I want to take it much harder. I know that the ‘H’ drum has its moment again, and we continue to engage every member of our team like: ‘You guys should start doing this, which fits into it, which fits into the Hedex set, but that’s just the last thing I want to do.

“I feel most comfortable when we are between genres. As soon as it becomes too metallic or too DNB, I start to feel uneasy. The middle ground is the perfect zone for us. I want to push further if we can.”
