New Musical Application Launch
A new musical application called Mashapp allows users to create Mashups in real time of popular music tracks. It was officially launched in the USA on Tuesday (February 18).
Licensing and Features
The application, originally available on iOS devices, has finalized licensed agreements with Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment, Warner Music Group, and Cobalt Music. This means that users can access a vast catalog of popular hits for mixing and matching.
Mashapp was founded by Yang Henderson, a former Spotify veteran in the music industry.
“The mission of Mashapp is to bring the joy of playing music in a non-granular way, allowing people to engage with their favorite music just as they would with DJing, mixing tracks, and Karaoke,” Henderson stated.
“We aim for this new creative experience to be excellent for both fans and artists. Achieving this requires close partnerships with labels and music publishers, and we are grateful that our partners have embraced our vision.”
The application enables music fans to create their own MashUps, blending popular songs in real time without necessitating professional production skills. Users can adjust vocals, instruments, tempo, and duration using simple controls to craft unique combinations of their favorite tracks.
“We want this new creative game to be an excellent experience for fans, as well as for artists. This requires a close partnership with sound recordings and musical publishers.”

Mashapp offers both free and premium tiers. Free users can create basic mashups and share them via web links, while premium subscribers enjoy unlimited creations, an ad-free listening experience, and access to enhanced creative features. Mashapp also includes social functions that allow users to follow other creators and discover new MashUPS within the community.
“We are pleased to collaborate with Mashapp to help fans delve deeper into how they engage with their favorite music through new personalization and creative experiences, which also respects the work of our artists,” stated Mark Piib, Executive Vice President of Business Development and Digital Strategy at Sony Music Entertainment.

PIIB also praised the platform’s approach to artist rights protection: “This partnership supports Sony Music’s ongoing commitment to market innovation, collaborating with developers of quality products that recognize the rights of professional creators.”
The application’s launch coincides with music streaming services seeking ways to make music consumption more interactive. While traditional platforms like Spotify and Apple Music focus on passive listening, Mashapp taps into fans’ desire to engage actively with music.
Nadir contractor, SVP of Digital Strategy and Business Development at Universal Music Group, described Mashapp as “a blend of DJ work with the availability that streaming offers.
“In Mashapp, users can unlock their own creative expression to oversee, play, and enjoy musical mashups in real time from their favorite artists and songs, while also respecting and supporting the rights of artists.”
“Our commitment to defending the rights of our artists and authors of songs lies at the heart of everything we are doing.”

“It quickly became evident that Mashapp had a unique vision that opened up a new experience for music fans on a well-executed platform, all while respecting copyright. We look forward to a long-term partnership with Mashapp.”
Mashapp is the latest DJ platform to secure licensing agreements with major music labels. In June, Amazon launched its streaming service Twitch, which they branded as the “first of its kind” deal with three music specialists: Universal Music Group, Warner Music Group, and Sony Music, along with numerous independent labels through Merlin. This partnership allows DJs to legally perform music during their live broadcasts on the platform.
