Mumford & Sons unveiled their latest single “Malibu” from the forthcoming album “Rushmee,” stating that the song “Simply felt like us.”
About the new single
A gentle and soothing track begins with the national guitar riff, as Marcus Mumford’s warm vocals resonate: “You are all I want / you all I need, and I will find the world under the shadow of your wings.”
In a press release discussing the track, frontman Marcus Mumford shared: “Malibu was the first song we wrote after returning to Los Angeles in January 2023. The song simply felt like us, and recording it with Dave (Cobb) solidified its position as the opening track for Rushmee. We love it.”

Upcoming album details
“Malibu” marks the second track to be released from the group’s anticipated fifth studio album, following the primary album of the same name.
Rushmee will celebrate its first LP in seven years, set to release on March 28 via Island/Glassnote, following their 2018 album Delta (pre-order/preliminary Here).
Rushmee also marks Mumford & Sons’ first album as a trio, featuring Mumford, Ted Dwan, and Ben Lovett, after banjoist Winston Marshall departed from the group in 2021 in light of negative feedback for endorsing the writings of conservative American journalist Andy Ngo.
According to the press release, Rushmee represents the place where it all began for the band. The pond, located in Wimbledon, southwest London, is where Mumford, Lovett, and the others first conceived the idea of forming the group. Rushmee stands as familiar as the instruments they played, underpinning their origin story.
Produced by the nine-time Grammy Award winner, “Rushmee” follows an intensive creative period for the trio, recorded at RCA Studio A in Nashville, Savannah, Georgia, and back at Marcus’ studio in the UK.
During an early 2024 interview regarding the release of new material, Lovett mentioned, “It’s just so cool that we’ll be sharing new music again after all these years.”
Mumford added: “We’ve always felt we would eventually release more music, but we wanted to wait for the right moment. We’ve never been in a rush, I don’t think. But when this music came together, we felt a sense of urgency.”
Lovett explained that they now have a collection of “many songs,” adding that the group is “really excited.”
