This week in Cover, Gubin shares insights on the journey she has taken within the South Korean music industry, choosing to decline offers to become a K-Pop IDOL trainee in order to focus on her individual artistry. “I always felt a strong desire to express my own thoughts and emotions through music personally,” she states. “A personal connection with my audience is what I always wanted to achieve, and that is why I never dreamed of becoming a member of the group.”

The singer-songwriter also discussed the viral success of her debut single “I Really Like You” on TikTok, reminiscing about how “it made me really happy when I saw that so many people use my song in their videos.” However, she emphasizes the importance of staying grounded amidst early success. “I believe that if I pursue sincerity and creativity, the rest will follow,” she notes. “I just want to create music that I am proud of, which resonates with people, and not focus on the trends and expectations of the public.”
