Nirvana’s Special Reunion Performance
Nirvana was reunited to perform at Sunday Night Live’s SNL 50: The Homecoming Concert with the participation of Post Malone on vocals.
The Event Recap
The surviving members of the iconic group, Krist Novoselic, Dave Grohl, and Pat Smear, performed “Smells Like Teen Spirit” at the event on February 14. This performance follows their recent appearance at the Fireaid Benefit concert in January, where they were joined by St. Vincent, Kim Gordon, Joan Jett, and Violet Grohl.
Although Grohl was previously announced as a performer for the celebration of SNL 50, it was unclear whether he would appear with Nirvana, Foo Fighters, or as a solo artist. Post Malone, who had performed 15 Nirvana cover songs in 2020 alongside Travis Barker from Blink-182, took over vocal duties for the event. During the 2020 tribute, Grohl expressed his approval, calling the performance “super cool.”
The SNL 50 anniversary celebrations will continue on February 16, featuring appearances by Paul McCartney, Sabrina Carpenter, and Paul Simon. The program launched its 50th season in September with a celebration that included a feature film called “Saturday Evening” and a documentary focused on Questlove, dedicated to the musical legacy of the show.
