Remembering Adam Schlezinger
Schlezinger, a founding member of the group, composer for films and television, and an Emmy and Grammy winner, died in 2020 at the age of 52 due to complications related to Covid-19.
Now, five years after his death, Wayne Fountains have announced their reunion to perform at Summerfest in Milwaukee on July 4, and at Oceans Calling in Ocean City, scheduled for September 26. Max 6th will join them on bass, filling the spot left by Schlezinger.

A Legacy Remembered
The recently announced dates mark the first official reunion of the group in over 12 years. In 2020, shortly after Schlezinger’s passing, the surviving members of Fountains of Wayne held a concert to help raise funds during the pandemic with Sharon Van Etten as the featured performer.
Following his death, Schlezinger was honored by numerous friends and colleagues, including Tom Hanks, who directed, shot, and starred in the lead role of the 1997 film What You Do! He noted Schlezinger’s contribution to the soundtrack and its title track, which became a worldwide hit.

“Without Adam Schlezinger, there would be no play; without him, what you are doing! He was alone. Lost in Covid-19. Today is terribly sad,” Hanks tweeted.
Chris Carrabba from Dashboard Confessional stated on Twitter that he was “faced with the right words” to express his feelings upon learning of Schlezinger’s death.
Billy Joe Armstrong from Green Day also paid tribute, highlighting “What You Do” during his series of quarantine sessions from There Are No Funny Mondays in 2020.
In 2023, Lauren Mayberry and Matthew Coma performed a live cover of “What You Are Doing” during a concert at the Williamsburg Music Hall in Brooklyn, New York.
