New version of Atom Bomb
Hully has unveiled the processed version of Atom Bomb – Electric Version, now available through Sub Pop.
Evolution of a beloved track
The track, which first debuted in February 2024, has been reimagined following its success during live performances over the past year.
“I believe that if a song is originally well-crafted, it should convey a similar emotion regardless of its format. I wanted to explore this idea with an atomic bomb,” explains Alicia Bonanno. “For the first time in my career, I released a solo piano piece and performed it live in front of an audience of strangers, each of us silent. This experience challenged me to channel a sense of boundlessness that I often seek to express, particularly when I feel restricted by the expectations placed upon me. If I truly want to grow, I must overcome my fear of the unknown.”
“There are still nights when anxiety leaves my mind blank, forcing me to pause mid-song to regain my composure. Even in moments when I feel on the verge of falling apart on stage, I realize that I have survived and everything is perfectly fine,” she continues. “I recorded and mixed this entire version of Atom Bomb in my room, except for the drums, which were played by JT Daly. It feels gratifying to release something that isn’t automated or formulaic; it captures my authentic emotions, which I believe serves the song best. The quality of the translation may be subjective, but the process and experimentation behind it have been incredibly rewarding.”
Bonanno dedicated much of the past year to touring in support of her album “Lucky For You,” where she opened for Suki Waterhouse and Grouplove, showcasing her single “Docket.” She is currently in the process of writing her next album.
