The Honor of Cultural Icons
The legend of the T-Rex Marc Bolan and the screen of the Audrey Hepburn screen will be honored with new London blue boards.
These two figures are among several, which, according to English Heritage, had a significant impact on the cultural landscape of London. The honors are awarded based on public proposals.
Audrey Hepburn’s Early Years in London
Hepburn spent her formative years in London, where she transitioned from ballet to acting. During her time in the capital, she secured her first significant role on screen. Hepburn will be commemorated with a blue plaque in Maifier.
Bolan, the vibrant frontman of the glam rock group T-Rex, was renowned for his flamboyant style and evolving musical artistry. He will receive a memorial plaque at one of his former residences in West London.
The charitable organization has paid tribute to both Hepburn and Bolan, along with other honored figures, including poet Una Marson, ballet pioneer Alisi Markov, writer Barbara Pym, and artist Graham Sutherland.

The curatorial director of English Heritage, Matt Thompson, stated in his announcement: “2025 will be an exciting year for the blue plaque scheme, as we honor these remarkable individuals who transformed the cultural fabric of London.
“From literature and art to dance and music, these figures played a vital role in shaping London as we know it today. Their contributions not only significantly influenced their fields but continue to inspire future generations.”
Celebrating George Harrison’s Legacy
Meanwhile, last summer in Liverpool, a blue plaque was placed at the childhood home of George Harrison. The widow of the late Beatles member, Olivia Harrison, paid tribute to the house in Arnold Grove, Liverpool. According to BBC, she expressed that it was a “source of family pride.”
The rock icon, who passed away in 2001 at the age of 58 after battling cancer, was born in 1943 and lived in a terrace house in the Ueverters area of the city until he was seven.
“There was something about those small family places and how you learn to respect the spaces of others,” said Harrison’s widow about the location (as reported by BBC). “He had the freedom to run down the alley, visit his Nan, and then return home. It was a big deal for a little five-year-old.”
“It was his cocoon, and he was such an incredible person with such vision, compassion, and sensitivity.”
