Sabrina Carpenter has teamed up with fellow artists Chappell Roan, Charlie XCX, and Noah Kahan to advocate for healthcare access in the music industry by supporting donations to the Backline charitable organization.
Chappell Roan’s Call to Action
This initiative follows Chappell Roan’s acceptance speech at the Grammys for Best New Artist, in which she urged music labels to provide better support for emerging artists, particularly in meeting the essential needs for “vital wages and medical services.”
Funding for Artist Healthcare
As part of the initiative named “We received you,” Carpenter matched Roan’s donation of $25,000 to Backline. The organization confirmed this partnership in Billboard, aiming to enhance healthcare accessibility for artists and foster a more supportive industry environment.
Both Charlie XCX and Noah Kahan also pledged $25,000 each. “I’m going to match your $25,000 to support artists’ access to healthcare,” Kahan stated. “I’m inspired. Happy to help get the ball rolling. Where’s my wallet?”
The latest discussions highlight the challenges artists face, from losing medical insurance to advocating for comprehensive support systems, shining a light on the status quo of artist welfare.
Charlie XCX added: “I saw @noahkahanmusic, who said he would do the same, and I thought that was incredible. Your speech at the Grammys was inspiring and came from a genuine place of care.”
Roan later clarified her intentions for the initiative on Instagram Stories, stating that “the Grammys were not intended to share personal experiences just to fundraise, but to call on industry leaders to help us create real change and protect their investments in a sustainable way. Fans, you shouldn’t have to sacrifice a dime. This is just one of many opportunities for industry leaders to stand up for artists. Much more work lies ahead.”
Ariana Grande also joined the conversation, advocating for the inclusion of mental health services in artists’ contracts. “It’s crucial for recording labels, studios, and production companies to include these provisions when you sign on to do something life-changing. You need access to a therapist multiple times a week,” she emphasized.
