The announcement of this tour comes just a week after Morrissey shared plans for a North American run of live performances scheduled for April to May. These shows will follow a brief series of concerts in Los Angeles through 2024, as well as dates in North America in late October and November.
This marks the first return to the UK for Morrissey since his performance in London in April 2023, and his July 9 show at the Royal Concert Hall in Nottingham was canceled due to “unforeseen circumstances.”
The Morrissey 2025 announcement in the UK and Ireland follows updates regarding his new material, namely, for the long-awaited album ‘Bonfire of Teenagers.’
Morrissey has been recording his LP from 2020 to 2021, but its release was postponed by Capitol Records due to ongoing disputes. He expressed that he “voluntarily severed” ties with Capitol Records in 2022, despite announcing he would release the LP just two months prior. Additionally, Morrissey mentioned that Miley Cyrus requested her backing vocals be removed from the track “I Am Veronica,” which they recorded in 2020.
He also continued to share updates about his site regarding the status of the album, accusing Capitol Records of “fascism” and supporting a “creeping culture of censorship.” He claimed that the label only signed the “Bonfire of Teenagers” project to sabotage his career.
In other statements, he alleged that the CEO of Capitol Records attempted to thwart his career, eventually taking to his site to announce that he was “silenced” from releasing the “Bonfire of Teenagers.”
The ‘Bonfire of Teenagers’ is an LP that Morrissey previously described as “the best album of my life,” highlighting that its title track revolves around the tragedy of “England 9/11,” referring to the Manchester Arena bombing in 2017.
The album’s issues continued into 2024, when Morrissey secured the rights to two of his albums in April following a prolonged dispute with Capitol Records, which he characterized as “a long, difficult, bloody war.”
Last November, during a performance in the USA, he voiced his frustration at being unable to release new music due to his struggles with “freedom of speech,” stating, “You cannot speak freely in England. If you don’t believe me, go there. Express your opinion, and you may find yourself in prison. It is very, very difficult.”
