Esther Rose Announces New Album
Esther Rose has revealed her upcoming album ‘Want’, set to be released on May 2 through New West Records.
Recording and Collaboration Details
This album features a collection of 11 tracks, produced by Ross Farbe of Video Age, and was recorded live in Nashville. The record includes performances from Dean Johnson, along with members of Video Age, Deslondes, and Silver Synthetic.
Following the release of Safe to Run in 2023, Esther’s new material showcases distortion and spontaneity. “For me, these songs felt like revelations,” she expresses, likening the recording process to memoir writing.
First Single and Creative Process
The lead single, ‘New Bad’, comes with a video directed by the artist and writer Anna Marie Tendler. “This song bursts from the speakers, blending elements of grunge and shoegaze,” Rose explains. “Working with Anna Marie Tendler was a dream collaboration. We created an easy and natural bond rooted in mutual admiration for each other’s artistry.”
Tendler adds, “We spent five days together traveling through the desert, discussing everything from love and family to our careers, therapy, ketamine, divorce, and music. The themes and visuals we explored were deeply personal.”
The Santa Fe-based artist highlights that the word “want” is repeated 77 times across the album. “This record delves into introspection. In these tracks, I examine my thoughts and behavioral patterns,” she explains. “It also touches on themes like the fear of success. I often write when I’m overwhelmed with fear, whether due to external circumstances or a deep dive into my subconscious.”
