Last week (January 27), Emilia Perez star and singer Selena Gomez shared a tearful Instagram story, saying: “All my people are attacked … by children. I don’t understand. I’m really sorry. I would like to do something, but I can’t. I don’t know what to do. I’ll try everything, I promise.”

Response from Political Figures

In response to Gomez’s post, a Republican figure dismissed her emotional reaction to the deportation measures, suggesting she should “go to Congress.” Trump’s border Tsar, Tom Homan, reacted by stating, “We will do this work to ensure that the laws of this country are upheld. If they do not like it, then go to Congress and change the law.”

Former Republican candidate Sam Parker also criticized Gomez, tweeting: “Depreciates Selena Gomez.” The official White House account also shared a video featuring several women discussing Gomez, stating, “You do not know who you are paying for.”

Television personality, author, and model Chrissy Teigen expressed her support for Gomez, telling TMZ: “I love her. Empathy should never be convicted or ridiculed, and it’s absolutely ridiculous and disgusting that the White House had the time to even make a statement or video about it.”

Teigen is not the only one rallying behind Gomez. Fans praised her for her honesty, stating: “Team Selena Gomez. Again. This woman is always so bold in sharing her truth, yet so many try to intimidate her.”

This is not the first time Selena Gomez has stood against mass deportation. Previously, she voiced her support for undocumented migrants in the United States by participating in the show Live Without Documents in 2019, which focused on the uncertain futures of families facing ICE deportation. She also wrote an article for Time magazine, recounting her aunt’s journey along the US-Mexico border.

“Undocumented immigration is an issue I think about every day, and I am forever grateful for the circumstances that allowed me to be born in this country,” she stated at the time.
