SNL is marking its 50th anniversary with the launch of its 50th season, which began in late September. Planned content for the milestone includes a feature film, Saturday Night, a documentary produced by Questlove, focusing on the show’s musical programming and much more.

In a three-star review of the film Saturday Night, Jordan Bassett wrote for NME: “The film lacks sufficient narrative drive and genuine comedy. However, when it reaches its inevitable conclusion, something remarkable happens. From the chaos emerges an inspiring ode to the importance of being present and saying “yes” while hoping for the best. You can either deliver ‘half a show on half a wheel,’ as Dafoe humorously notes at one point, or you can create a narrative. This is what Saturday Night nearly achieves, making it worth a watch. As any improvisational comedian would tell you: stick with it, and you might stumble upon something gold.”
