A Grammy Reward Recognition
Prince, The Clash, and Frankie Valli were among the honorees receiving a Grammy Award.
Ceremony Details
The event was held on Saturday evening (February 1) at the Wilshire Ebell Theater in Los Angeles, leading up to the Grammy Main Prize ceremony on Sunday evening.
Organized by the Academy of Sound Recording, this honor is bestowed upon artists who have made significant contributions to the music industry. This year, the award also went to Frank Frankie Beverly, Gospel singer Dr. Bobby Jones, and Prog Blues musician Taj Mahal Chambers.
The trustee prize recipients included composers Erroll Garner and Tanya Leon, along with producer Glin Jones. Additionally, acoustic pioneer Dr. Leo Beranek received an award this year.
Among those who honored Prince at the ceremony was Jimmy Jam, a member of the Minneapolis group closely associated with him during his early career. “He had the best work ethic of everyone I met,” Jam stated. “What he taught me was to see the greatness in others.”
Chuck D from Public Enemy presented the award to Punk ICONS The Clash, reading a message from surviving members Mick Jones, Paul Simon, and Topper Headon. “When you heard our voice, we also heard yours,” the message concluded.
