Reactions to Immigration Policies
Since the start of the Trump administration, quick actions on immigration have been made, including an ICE message detailing the arrest of 956 individuals on Sunday (January 26).
On Monday (January 27), Emilia Perez star Selena shared a video on her Instagram, visibly in tears, expressing: “I just wanted to say that I am very sorry. All my people are attacked. Children, I don’t understand. I am very sorry; I would like to do something, but I can’t. I don’t know what to do, I will try everything that I promise.”
Selena Gomez is divided by the new history on Instagram, crying among the deportation of Mexicans:

After facing negative feedback on social media, Gomez swiftly deleted the video and later stated in her story: “Obviously, you cannot show sympathy for people.”
The singer and actress is currently the most followed woman on Instagram, boasting 423 million followers, ranking third overall after football stars Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

Advocacy for Immigrants
Selena Gomez has been vocal in her support for undocumented migrants in the United States, previously hosting a show Live Without Documents in 2019, which highlighted the uncertain future of families trying to evade ICE deportation. She also penned an article for Time magazine, discussing her aunt’s journey along the US-Mexico border.
In recent months, Gomez has been focusing on promoting Emilia Perez, a transgender-themed drama featuring Zoe Saldana and Sofia Gascon. While her co-stars have received nominations for upcoming Academy Awards, Selena has faced backlash online.
Reflecting on her career last month, the two-time Grammy nominee remarked that she does not see music as a long-term plan, feeling “too old for the life of pop stars.”
