Oscar Nomination and Musical Performances
Chalamet just received an Oscar nomination this week for his role as the songwriting legend in Complete Unknown. He treated NBC viewers to three deep cuts from the Dylan archives.
Behind dark sunglasses, he performed a full-length version of “Outlaw Blues” from the classic “Bring It All Home,” seamlessly transitioning into “Three Angels” from 1970’s “A New Morning,” where Chalamet took center stage for spoken word vocals.

While Chalamet, who has sung dozens of Dylan tracks in the biopic, wasn’t fully in ‘Dylan voice’ during SNL, he later returned for an acoustic rendition of “Tomorrow Is a Long Time,” a song originally featured on 1971’s Bob Dylan’s Greatest Hits.

About Complete Unknown and Future Prospects
Complete Unknown explores Dylan’s controversial shift from acoustic to electric guitar in the mid-60s. Dylan served as the film’s executive producer, which is based on Elijah Wald’s 2015 book, Dylan Goes Electric! Newport, Seeger, Dylan, and the Night That Divided Sixty.
The film received eight Oscar nominations, including Best Director for James Mangold, Best Supporting Actor for Edward Norton, Best Supporting Actress for Monica Barbaro, and awards for Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Sound, and Best Costume Design.
NME awarded the film a four-star review, with Alex Flood noting: “The most important (and often the most difficult) job of any musical film is getting the score right.” And it nails it. For newcomers to Bob’s music, you’ll leave eager to explore his back catalog. For existing fans, the upcoming weeks will involve creating playlists of lesser-known B-Sides and delving into the lore of unfamiliar scenes. It’s a bold idea, but a good one.”
Chalamet recently made headlines for cycling into Lyme to attend the London premiere of a musical biopic, only to receive a fine for it.
The actor last appeared on SNL in 2023, where he impersonated legendary director Martin Scorsese and participated in a sketch with Boygenus, all dressed as Troye Sivan and parodying his “Got Me” dance.
