Insights from Jasta
As a guest on This Day in Metal, during a podcast hosted by journalist Ed Hack, Jasta provided advice on how to disregard negativity and subsequently criticized Tool and their 2019 studio album.
“Whatever it is, whether it's writing a book, making a movie, recording a record, writing a poem, or even cooking a recipe, you have to ignore those who don't believe in you. Seek out those who do, keep them close, and ensure you honor them while they appreciate your work and vice versa,” he stated (via Chatterbox).
“It must come from a place of authenticity and heart, as the elements that resonate with people for years—be it 10, 20, or 30 years down the line—are those that feel truly genuine in the moment. You just know when something is real. Yet, sharing that vision can sometimes lead others to dismiss it,” he elaborated.
Jasta added, “You can pour your heart and soul into an album, and a reviewer may only listen once before declaring, 'No, this is terrible,' just like I did with the last Tool record, which felt like spa music. It’s part of the process. You must remain resilient and trust that your work will reach the right audience.”
“Fear Inoculum” represents Tool's fifth studio album. In a glowing five-star review, NME praised the album, stating it was “possibly the Tool album where the people who made it relied more on their hearts than their heads.”
