The Brighton band took to their official X/Twitter account to share the song ‘Don’t Want To Dance’ and mentioned that their forthcoming EP ‘Machine Starts To Sing’, set for release on February 21st, is available for pre-order. Here – will mark “the last new music from us as Porridge Radio” and signifies the end of the band.

“The songs on this EP are an important part of Clouds In The Sky They Will Always Be There For Me and mean as much to us as the 11 songs on the album. We’re glad you heard them,” they tweeted.

They added: “This band was our life; we are family now. These tours will be our last, thank you very much for listening. Love, Dana, Georgie, Sam, and Dan.”

Emotional Farewell

In the poignant song “Don’t Want To Dance,” Dana Margolin softly expresses: “No, I don’t want to dance, but I don’t want to cry about it either / I think I took all I could take / And I don’t want to think, ’cause I don’t want to think about it / I can’t sleep, I can’t sleep without this”, revealing a deep inner turmoil.

Founded in 2015, Porridge Radio emerged from Margolin’s desire for self-expression, inspired by the sea in her hometown of Brighton. In 2019, the group signed with the American indie label Secretly Canadian. They released their second album, Every Bad, in 2020, which peaked at number 18 on NME‘s 50 Best Albums of 2020 list and received a Mercury Prize nomination that year.

NME gave a five-star review of the record, stating: “Here Porridge Radio has utilized some of music’s most sophisticated techniques – breathing fresh life into indie and creating a record that can be compared in bits and pieces to other bands, yet feels entirely its own. Every Bad is a stunning step up from their 2016 bedroom-recorded debut Rice, Pasta And Other Fillers. No wonder they declared themselves “the best band in the world.”

Previously speaking with NME as part of Great Reading, Margolin shared her aspirations for Porridge Radio, stating, “Obviously I want to be Coldplay. Damn stupid question!”

She also praised legendary rock critic Everett True, who referred to Porridge Radio as “the best band in the world” after capturing 40 seconds of their performance at the Brighton venue Prince Albert. “He’s great; we know him pretty well now,” she commented. “But I always knew we were the best band in the world, even before Everett True wrote it.
