Lily Allen’s Temporary Break
The news comes after the singer and actress, who co-hosts a podcast with friend Mikita Oliver, revealed on last week's episode that she would be taking a temporary step back from work commitments to focus on her mental health.
On the podcast, Allen explained that she's “really having a hard time being interested in anything” at the moment and that she's “really not in a good place.”
“I know I've been saying this for months, but I spiraled and spiraled and spiraled and it got out of control,” she continued, recalling how she had to leave events early due to circumstances. She added: “I just can't focus on anything other than the pain I'm going through. And it’s really very difficult.”
There is no word yet on what she plans to focus on for her well-being, although she did confirm that she has not relapsed and will not be entering rehab.
It has now been confirmed that while she is away from the show, musician Mabel will step in and take on temporary hosting duties.
Mabel and Other Guests Join the Show
On January 16 and 20, the artist will replace Allen. Mabel also has a close connection with Oliver: the latter’s mother, Andy, is Mabel’s godmother. The two also have a close relationship, with Podcasting today revealing that Mabel and Mikita had previously referred to each other as “sisters”.
Also standing in for Allen during her absence will be Rizzle Kicks star Jordan Stevens and comedian Simon Amstell. The former will appear in episodes airing on January 23 and 27, while Amstell will co-host with Oliver on January 30 and February 3.
Elsewhere in last week’s episode Miss me? Allen responded to “vicious rumors” about her relationship with her husband, Stranger Things actor David Harbour. In particular, she denied that he found her “in a drug den surrounded by men.”
In December, it was reported that the couple had separated and ended their four-year marriage, although this remains unconfirmed.
This wasn’t the first time the “LDN” singer opened up about her mental health on the show. Near the end of last year, she told listeners that she had “stopped eating” and was “not in the best place mentally.” She also suggested that her ADHD could play a role, as it could cause her body and mind to not connect properly with each other at times.
She has previously been open about her sobriety and said in April that she could “lose everything” if she drank again. In her younger years, she struggled with both binge drinking and drug abuse.
Allen and Oliver are going to bring their Miss me? podcast to a live audience for the first time in March, and at the time of writing, it’s likely that Allen will be back on the show by then.
