Ringo Starr Expresses His Desire to Just Be in a Band

Ringo Starr’s Passion for Collaboration

Ringo Starr has expressed his lack of interest in pursuing a solo career, stating that he “only wants to be in a band.”

The Beatles drummer has been on tour with his All-Starr Band since the '80s, as he shared in a recent interview with Sunday Times. He mentioned that this preference is partly due to his desire not to be “self-sufficient”.

“I just want to be in a band,” he told the newspaper. “I don't want to be alone. You can’t go out and do “Yesterday” with just drums.”

New Music and Collaborations

Starr recently dropped Look Up, his first country album in over 50 years, collaborating with several artists, including producer T. Bone Burnett, who co-wrote nine of the album’s 11 songs.

He revealed that before Burnett sent him the captivating track, he had no intentions of making a country album. “He sent me this beautiful country track, and it still blows my mind today,” Starr said. “I thought he was going to send me a rock-pop song because you’re just in this world.”

The record, which was released last Friday (January 10), features singles “Time On My Hands” and “Thank You,” with contributions from Alison Krauss, Billy Swan, and Bruce Sugar. This is Starr’s first album since 2019.

Upcoming Shows and Beatles News

Starr is scheduled to perform “Look Up” in Nashville with two headlining shows at the Ryman Auditorium on January 14 and 15. You can find the remaining tickets here.

In Beatles news, fans of the legendary group had much to celebrate in 2024, including Martin Scorsese’s upcoming documentary, the band’s 60th anniversary reissue of A Hard Day's Night, a massive 1964 US box set celebrating 60 years of Beatlemania, and Paul McCartney’s first performance of “Now And Then.”

Recently, Starr surprised fans at McCartney’s last concert of 2024, joining him onstage during the finale of the “Got Back” tour.

During the encore, McCartney announced to the audience after a thunderous applause: “We have another surprise for you. Bring to the stage the mighty, one and only Mr. Ringo Starr.”

McCartney playfully joked with Starr, “Should we rock? Put on your kit, la.” They then launched into two classic Beatles tracks: “Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club (Reprise)” and “Helter Skelter”.
