New Single Release
Pebbles has launched their fresh single “Slowly, Slowly”, the latest offering from their upcoming EP “Four Portraits of the Same Ugly House”, set to release on January 31.
Exploration of Themes
The Cork six captured the track in complete darkness, aiming to convey a feeling of isolation through layers of fuzzy guitars and feedback, which together form a wall of distortion and muddled pedal tones. The song opens with modulation-reverb-laden guitars and textured melodies, delving into the themes of belonging and recognition.
“Slowly, Slowly is a song about the desire to belong and to be acknowledged, while also touching on the selfishness of craving recognition,” the band elaborates. “The somber tone of the vocals and harmonies flows over the guitars, with growing frustration culminating in a brief burst of feedback during the choruses before reverting to the echo chamber in the second verse. Recorded in total darkness, we aimed to encapsulate this feeling of isolation and translate it into music. This track oscillates between catharsis and longing, presenting our narrative about ‘the beautiful and the ugly’—the desires that are both wanted and unwise, and the heartbreak that arises when dreams don’t materialize. Ultimately, it’s about acknowledging that sometimes, it’s acceptable to be selfish regarding these feelings.”
Upcoming Shows
The EP, produced by Aidan O’Mahony at Kitten Lane Studios and mastered by Pete Maher, encapsulates pivotal moments from the band’s experiences in Cork city. “This EP is a reflection on my time in Cork, referred to as ‘The Ugly House’ in the title,” they explain. “Written at a time when music became my central focus, all my experiences—both uplifting and challenging—stirred from this small town. In getting to know its locales and people, these four songs represent the most impactful moments and emotions.”
