Divorce Announcement
Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck’s divorce is now official.
As per documents obtained from PEOPLE Magazine, the couple finalized their divorce on January 6 after a judge approved Lopez’s divorce petition in August.
Billboard reports that they reached an agreement on the terms of their divorce in September, with neither party required to pay alimony or share legal costs equally. They have outlined terms for dividing assets and finances, but the specifics remain confidential. Additionally, Lopez will abandon Affleck’s last name and revert to her maiden name, Jennifer Lopez.
Next Steps for Lopez
In a conversation with PEOPLE after the divorce was finalized, a source revealed that Lopez “is in a really good place and just wants to close the door on this crazy chapter,” adding that “the fairytale she was promised turned out to be a nightmare in the end.”
Lopez and Affleck had eloped in Las Vegas in July 2022 and celebrated with a traditional ceremony for family and friends on August 20, 2022. Exactly two years following their initial vows, Lopez filed for divorce, citing “irreconcilable differences” and marking April 26 as the date of their separation.
A History of Relationships
This marks the second split for Lopez and Affleck; they were previously engaged in 2002 and separated in 2004. After reconnecting in 2022, their relationship was partially captured in Lopez’s documentary, The Greatest Love Story Never Told, released in February 2024.
News of their separation follows Affleck’s purchase of a new “bachelor pad” in Pacific Palisades for $20.5 million on Lopez’s 55th birthday in July. Just days before, the couple listed their Beverly Hills mansion for sale at $68 million.
