Wayne Osmond Passes Away
Wayne Osmond, who gained fame for his performances with his brothers in The Osmonds, has passed away at the age of 73.
The family confirmed the news on Thursday (January 2), describing him as a “beloved husband and father,” stating he died peacefully while surrounded by his wife and five children.
Legacy of Love and Faith
His daughter Amy Cook shared on Facebook that “his legacy of faith, music, love and laughter has impacted the lives of many around the globe. He would like everyone to know that the gospel of Jesus Christ is true, that families are eternal, and that banana splits are the ultimate dessert. We love him and will miss him greatly.”
The Rise of The Osmonds
The Osmonds were formed in 1958 in Ogden, Utah, where Wayne was joined by brothers Alan, Merrill, and Jay. Initially a barbershop quartet, they gained recognition after being discovered by Jay Emerson Williams, Andy Williams’ father, while performing at Disneyland in 1961.
Wayne played guitar in the group, which later welcomed younger siblings Donnie and Jimmy. They experienced significant commercial success in the 1970s, selling over 77 million records worldwide. Known for their close vocal harmonies and upbeat tunes, their music spanned genres like country, rock, and pop. They remain best known for hits such as “Crazy Horses,” “Love Me For A Reason,” and “Let Me In.”
Wayne’s brother Jay paid tribute to him on Facebook, stating: “A true legend has departed this Earth. My heart aches deeply with the loss of my brother Wayne. They say that where there is great love, there is great sorrow when we part on our earthly journey.”
“Throughout my life, I have always felt the closest bond with Wayne among all my siblings. He was my roommate and confidant for many years. During my visit to him at home last week, he expressed sadness over no longer being able to fly, a pastime that had always brought him comfort.”
Wayne left The Osmonds in 2007 due to health issues; he had been diagnosed with a brain tumor a decade ago. Although he managed to overcome the illness, it led to damaged cochlea and impaired his hearing. A stroke in 2012 left him unable to play guitar.
Surviving him are his wife of 50 years, Kathleen, and five children.
