Lily Allen Aims to Release New Album by Year’s End

Lily Allen’s Album Plans

Lily Allen has disclosed that she is “trying to manifest” the release of a new album “by the end of the year”.

During her Miss me? podcast, the singer, alongside close friend and presenter Mikita Oliver, expressed her hope that 2025 will mark the release of her follow-up to her last album, 2018’s No Shame.

“First of all, I’m going to go and clear my head a little bit,” she mentioned. “In the early part of the year, I focus on myself a little, then I’ll write some more, then I’ll direct my play (Hedda Gabler), and I hope to maybe release an album by the end of the year. That would be great, wouldn’t it?”

“It’s not real, I’m just trying to manifest it now,” she added, before saying, “Look, I have this. We’re bringing Lily Allen back to 2025.”

Musical Exploration and Country Genre

Allen has been hinting at a return to music for some time, revealing last year that she was working on new material in Nashville, Tennessee. “Nashville has so much heritage,” she commented in a previous episode of her podcast. “I have to say it’s quite scary being here. People are really talented.”

She later revealed that she “tried some stuff” with country music while in Nashville. This exploration came after she criticized Beyoncé’s recent move into the genre with her latest album, “Cowboy Carter,” stating that it was “weird” for the singer to cover Dolly Parton’s “Jolene.”

“It’s very strange that you cover the most successful songs in this genre,” she expressed. “It’s a pretty interesting thing when you’re trying to get into a genre and you just pick the most popular song in that genre to cover.” She questioned, “I mean, you do it, Beyoncé—and she literally does it, but why does she do Dolly?”

The revelation about her venture into country music came during a performance with Nick Grimshaw and Angela Hartnett on the Dish podcast.

“I’m just making room for some music so that some music can reveal itself,” she explained (via Standard). “It’s not an album… just yeah. I’m just, you know, trying something to see if it works. I love country and western music. And I also feel that my writing is a narrative, a kind of narrative-based music.”

Before that, in January last year, she mentioned that she had already penned about 50 songs for a prospective new album. It follows her revelation that she returned to the studio in 2023 after a special performance with Olivia Rodrigo at Glastonbury 2022. Their duet of “Fuck You” prompted hints that she might not be retiring from music just yet.

Speaking about her studio return, Allen noted that performing with Rodrigo “awakened something in her that reignited her desire to write and record new music”. Earlier, in 2020, she had stated that she had completed work on a new album and was also writing for three musicals, but that proposed album was never released.

Her earlier comments about organizing her thoughts come after she revealed in December that she was “not in a good place mentally” and had “stopped eating”, noting that she was “going through a tough time” in the recent months.

In related news, Allen recently shared that she earns more from selling foot photos on OnlyFans than from Spotify. The singer began exploring this platform after a conversation with her manicurist.

“I have a woman who comes and does my nails,” she disclosed to co-host Mikita Oliver. “I was informed that I have five stars on WikiFeet which is quite rare. My legs rank quite highly online.”

Shortly after launching her page, Allen reported receiving an “eye-opening” response. “I received a lot of disparaging, you know, terrible messages in private messages,” she explained. “I’m saying something very personal and nasty.”

Additionally, Allen and Oliver confirmed they will bring their Miss Me? podcast to a live audience for the first time this year in London. This podcast, a Persephonica production for BBC Sounds, launched in March and will record its first live edition at the Hackney Empire on March 6, 2025.
