Metallica’s Robert Trujillo Explains Why He Doesn’t Contribute Much Music to the Band

Trujillo’s Role in Metallica

Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo has disclosed the reasons behind his limited contributions to the band’s songwriting.

Writing Credits and Albums

Trujillo became a part of Metallica in 2003 and received his first songwriting credit for every track on their 2008 album, Death Magnetic.

Since that time, he was recognized as a writer for the song “Manunkind” from the 2016 album Hardwired… To Self-Destruct, and has co-writing credits on three tracks from their latest release, 2023’s 72 Seasons: “Screaming,” “Suicide,” and “The Sleepwalker of My Life.”

Trujillo’s Perspective on Writing

Recently, the bassist explained why he doesn’t engage deeply in the writing process. During an interview with Toby Morse on the One Life, One Chance podcast, Trujillo remarked, “I’m joining Metallica, and those guys write amazing songs, and I’m just not going to suddenly be included in that.”
